INVITATION & CALL FOR PAPERS

The Nordic Corporate Governance Network (NCGN) is pleased to invite members and partners of the network to a:

2-day workshop at BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo on September 11-12th, 2025

Registration please sign up here!

Deadline for call for papers is August 15th.

The workshop aims to be a forum for academics from the Nordic and Baltic countries to present and discuss ongoing corporate governance research. This year, we are calling on papers focusing on traditional corporate governance like board work, compensation issues, ownership and regulation. On the same time, we do also welcome more forward-looking papers in the cross field of AI and corporate governance, geopolitical risks and boards, or the need for different approaches in the area of regulation.

We consider this conference as multidisciplinary, typically with scholars having a background from Finance, Law or Accounting.

TOPICS

All kinds of corporate governance research are welcome, although we would particularly value studies of Nordic and Baltic corporate governance. Work in progress is welcome. PhD candidates are encouraged to submit their work and best paper awards will be given both for the main and PhD tracks. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to these topics:

  • Ownership and block holdings
  • Board work and board behaviour
  • Compensation and incentives
  • Regulation and its impact on board work or sectors
  • Board work and geopolitical risk, a new reality?
  • What impact will AI have on future board work and executives in the Nordics?
  • ESG and Sustainability
  • Is corporate governance in the Baltic countries converging, or diverging, in relation to the Nordic corporate governance model?

As always, our intention is to have an open discussion with several papers from each of the Nordic countries represented at the workshop.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

  • Professor Lasse Lien, Norwegian School of Economics (NHH)
  • Professor Tom Kirchmaier, London School of Economics and Copenhagen Business School
  • Professor Sven-Erik Sjöstrand , Stockholm School of Economics, “Corporate Governance – An Owner Perspective”

WEBINAR: The impact from regulation – where will the Nordic corporate governance model be in a world between Draghi and Musk?

The whole area of regulation is becoming a focal point both inside the EU with the publication of the Draghi report, and in the USA with the new Trump administration, calling for a radical shift. The green transition, lack of competitiveness, the defence situation in Europe and an aging population calls for new approaches. At the same time, the financial sector is drowning in regulation. The three heads of the Nordic FSA are asking for help and a completely different approach. In the USA, Elon Musk is now appointed to make a complete revolution in this area over a period of 18 months, which might be triggering a completely different digitalized and AI driven approach.

Hence, at the webinar on April 24th 2025 focus was on this new reality, and what could be a relevant Nordic research agenda as a response to these major challenges.

Key Speakers:

Jette Steen Knudsen

Tom Kirchmaier

Lars Ohnemus

Key Subjects:

Regulation and performance – what do we know?

Can the Nordic corporate governance model be a part of the solution for EU?

Regulation and impact – Why is the concept of proportionality not used more effectively and legislation reviewed in line with economic progress?

Is digitalization and AI the solution to become competitive? Can the Nordics match the US?

A new research agenda for the Nordics
