Facts & Figures
Prototyping the Nordic Corporate Governance Database
The project is undergoing the prototyping phase. Our ambitions in terms of data quality demanded a step-wise approach that could decouple challenges related to designing the database from the complexity involved in coordinating a decentralized, large-scale, cross-country data collection.
The current version of the database only includes reliable and consistent data for publicly listed
firms in the Nordic countries during the period 2006-2019.
The database includes information on:
2018 publicly listed firms
(Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland)
28471 Individuals
A comprehensive set including executives, owners, board members, auditor, …
Unique firm identifiers
Derived from the various national company registries
Data Quality
High standard of data quality over multiple dimensions is the main focus of the project which is ensured by a detailed planning process. Before deploying a full, cross-country effort, we dedicated a large part of the establishment phase to carefully design the organizational structure of the steering committee and to prototype both infrastructure (hardware and software), as well as data collection and integrations methods.
Data quality is first ensured by a careful selection of data sources, and, second, by a series of consistency checks spanning pre, during and post data collection. Specific attention is dedicated to ensuring external consistency of the data, i.e. the definitions and the procedure used for acquiring the information produce data that are consistent with reliable external sources. External consistency checks are deployed on all data acquisition process.
Database DESCRIPTION
Currently the data is available for access in a prototype version for non-commercial use.
